Using WhatsApp abroad free of charge
WhatsApp is the free instant messenger with the widest reach in Germany and abroad. No other free messenger for smartphones has come anywhere near to matching WhatsApp.
Those are just a few of the many reasons for using WhatsApp abroad. There is simply no easier, cheaper or, above all, faster way to send greetings from your holiday. With so much speaking in favour of WhatsApp, it makes perfect sense to enjoy the advantages of this free messenger abroad as well.
Making free calls abroad with WhatsApp
The call function built into the WhatsApp messenger lets you make free calls through WhatsApp anywhere in the world. There are no charges for the outgoing call, and the person you call does not pay anything for the WhatsApp call either. The only requirement for free calling with WhatsApp is an active internet connection on your phone. It is therefore best to check online beforehand whether free internet access is available at your destination, or what internet use will cost you there.
International tariffs for WhatsApp
Below you will find suitable prepaid tariffs that let you carry on using WhatsApp free of charge while travelling abroad.
Using Wi-Fi for WhatsApp
These days every hotel complex offers its guests a Wi-Fi network. But be careful, because not every hotel provides it free of charge. Even booking an all-inclusive stay is no guarantee of free internet access. Hotel prices for internet can range between 5 and 10 euros a day. Please also bear in mind that WhatsApp may be fully or partially blocked in some countries.
Wi-Fi is not always suitable for WhatsApp
Plenty of experience has shown that you cannot always rely on free internet access. Either it is too slow or the connection keeps dropping out. To be absolutely sure that you remain reachable on WhatsApp on your smartphone at all times, you should fall back on an international data SIM card.
WhatsApp is blocked in my country
If WhatsApp is blocked where you are staying, either by the country itself or by the mobile provider, it is worth using a VPN app on your smartphone. In less than 5 minutes you can encrypt all of the internet connections on your phone and are no longer subject to any provider block. This unblocking is useful for more than just a country block on WhatsApp, because many other apps are affected by country or proxy blocks too, which can make using them abroad impossible. That is exactly what happened to millions of WhatsApp users in Brazil. Thanks to a VPN this is no longer a problem, and it lets you use WhatsApp despite the block.
WhatsApp available at any time, anywhere and free of charge
So that you can use WhatsApp without limits wherever you have internet access, we recommend using a VPN tunnel that bypasses any country block. This also gives you worldwide access to the free built-in call function of the WhatsApp Messenger, saving you the high costs of international calling rates.
