Device compatibility

Will mSpy run on our phone?

iPhone or Android, brand new or a few years old: this page sets out which devices are supported, what setting up requires and how the routes differ. Every statement comes from the provider’s official compatibility information.

  • iOS: every version via iCloud
  • Android 5 or newer
  • No jailbreak, no root

The two platforms at a glance

Apple

iPhone & iOS

Through iCloud sync, mSpy covers every version of iOS — no jailbreak, and no app on the iPhone.

  • iCloud sync: all iOS versions
  • Wi-Fi sync: iOS 13 – 16
  • No jailbreak needed

Common generations

  • iPhone 17
  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 15
  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone SE

What matters is the iOS version and the setup you choose, not the model. Older iPhones are covered through iCloud sync as well.

Google

Android

mSpy states Android 5 or newer as the requirement and, by its own account, supports all Android devices — whatever the brand.

  • Android 5 or newer
  • All Android devices
  • No root needed

Widely used brands

  • Samsung Galaxy
  • Xiaomi / Redmi
  • Huawei
  • Motorola
  • LG
  • Google Pixel
  • OnePlus
  • Sony Xperia

mSpy names Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, LG and Motorola explicitly; the rest fall under its statement that all Android devices are supported. Some manufacturer skins ask for additional permissions.

Setup: three routes, three sets of requirements

The operating system decides which route applies — and with it, what you need to have ready.

Android: installing on the device

Android 5 or newer

The app is set up once on the target device. After that everything is reviewed in the browser.

What you need for this

  • One-time access to the device
  • About 15 minutes for the setup
  • No root access needed

iPhone: iCloud sync

All iOS versions

No app on the iPhone: the data is read from the iCloud backup.

What you need for this

  • The Apple ID and password of the target device
  • iCloud backup switched on
  • One-time access to the iPhone for the confirmation code
  • Location tracking only with Family Sharing switched on

iPhone: Wi-Fi sync

iOS 13 to 16

Without iCloud credentials: the first transfer runs through a computer, everything after that over Wi-Fi.

What you need for this

  • One-time access to the iPhone for the first transfer
  • The iPhone’s passcode
  • A USB cable and a computer running Windows 10 or macOS 10.15 or newer
  • A stable Wi-Fi connection

Is my smartphone compatible?

  • iPhone + Android The two mobile platforms that matter.
  • Many brands & generations From the Samsung Galaxy to the iPhone.
  • One dashboard Review device information comfortably in your browser.

mSpy compatibility: supported smartphones

mSpy runs on the two platforms that turn up in family life: iPhone and Android. What decides compatibility is not the model but the version of the operating system and the setup you choose. For Android the provider states Android 5 as the minimum version; for the iPhone, iCloud sync covers all iOS versions according to the provider.

mSpy Android: supported Android versions

Android smartphones and tablets running Android 5 or newer are supported — from the Samsung Galaxy through Xiaomi and Redmi to Huawei, Motorola, LG, Google Pixel and OnePlus. Root access is not required. Setting up means holding the device once; some manufacturer skins ask for additional permissions along the way.

mSpy iPhone: iOS compatibility and setup

On the iPhone no app is installed and no jailbreak is needed. iCloud sync reads the data from the backup and, according to the provider, works with all iOS versions; it needs the Apple ID, the password and iCloud backup switched on. For iOS 13 to 16 there is Wi-Fi sync instead, using a USB cable and a computer. Which features are available differs from one route to the other.

Frequently asked questions about compatibility

What is the minimum Android version?

Android 5 or newer. The provider states that all Android devices are supported — the brand makes no difference. Some manufacturer skins ask for additional permissions during setup.

Which iPhones and iOS versions are supported?

For iCloud sync the provider states all iOS versions. For Wi-Fi sync it states iOS 13 to 16. So no particular iPhone model is the condition — what matters is the iOS version and the route you choose.

Does the iPhone need a jailbreak, or the Android device root access?

No. The provider states explicitly that neither jailbreaking nor rooting is required.

Do I need the device in my hands?

For Android, yes: the app is set up once on the target device. On the iPhone no app is installed, but you still need access once — for the iCloud sync confirmation code, or for the first Wi-Fi transfer. The provider puts this at around 15 minutes.

Are all features the same on both systems?

No. The range differs by operating system, version and setup route. The provider itself points out that it cannot guarantee every feature of the plan you booked will run on a given target device.

Are tablets supported as well?

The provider refers to Android target devices in general; the same minimum version applies to Android tablets. For Apple tablets the same setup routes apply as for the iPhone.
